Black Locust; Here we use the extremely robust heartwood, which has similar “waterproof” properties as teak. The Black Locust is extremely resistant to rot-causing, wood-destroying fungi and insects. The natural durability of Black Locust, when used outdoors, is therefore up to 50 years. It clearly surpasses the chestnut. In hydraulic engineering, the service life of robinia wood is even much longer. Even oak and larch, which are usually used here, cannot compete with Black Locust in this area. Another important advantage of Black Locust wood is that, despite its high bulk density, it shrinks little and hardly works. If not oiled regularly, Black Locust wood develops a typical uniform silver-grey patina after about a year. This shade then remains largely permanent and ensures a very attractive appearance.

Teak comes from the teak tree (lat. Tectona grandis), a tropical deciduous tree that grows in eastern monsoon forests. The available wood comes from plantation cultivation. Because of its outstanding durability, great hardness and beautiful pattern, teak is used particularly in the construction of decorative furniture and parquet flooring for the terrace. Teak wood also contains caoutchouc, i.e. natural rubber and is therefore non-slip when wet. That is why it used to be used in ship and bridge construction.

Both types of wood are “waterproof.” We deliver the wood untreated, i.e. not oiled. If you leave the wood like this, it will turn gray over time due to the influence of water (known from teak garden chairs). Both types of wood can be oiled, eg with linseed oil, olive oil etc.  If oiled, then it should be re-oiled regularly.
